  1. In the Name of God, Amen. This is
  2. the last will and Testament of me James Barfoot of the Parish
  3. of South Stoneham in the County of Southampton yeoman which I make
  4. and publish as follows, being of sound and disposing mind, memory and
  5. understanding, first I will and direct that all my just debts funeral and
  6. testamentary expenses be paid and discharged by my Executors hereinafter
  7. named as soon as conveniently my be after my decease, And I do hereby give
  8. devise and bequeath unto my son William Barfoot the following part of my
  9. Household Goods and Furniture, that is to say, a chest of drawers
  10. a round mahogany tea table & a small oval cooking flask,
  11. and as to all the rest residue and remainder of my Estate and effects as well
  12. in possession as reversion money and securities for money and all my estate
  13. and effects whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath the same and every
  14. part thereof unto and equally between and amongst my children James Barfoot,
  15. John Barfoot, the said William Barfoot, Elizabeth the wife of Stephen Dummer
  16. and Ann the wife of George Owton and their Executors, Administrators and
  17. Assignees to be equally divided between them, And in case either my said children
  18. should die before me without leaving any lawful issue, then I will and direct
  19. that the share of him or her so dying of and in my Estate and Effects shall go
  20. and be paid to the Survivor of my Children, equally to be divided between
  21. them, But if either of my said Children should die in my life-time, leaving
  22. any lawful issue then I give and devise the part share and interest of and
  23. in my said estate and effects to which either of my said children so dying would
  24. have been entitled if living to the issue of my said Children in dying in equal
  25. proportions at such times, manners, and proportions as my executors shall in their
  26. discretion think most advisable, And in case either of my said children shall die
  27. before attaining their respective Ages of Twenty One years without issue then I
  28. give and devise the part and share of the one so dying with and equally between
  29. and among my surviving children and their issue in Manner before mentioned
  30. provided always, and my will and desire is that if I should die whilst my
  31. son John occupies his farm under the present lease, then only one moiety or
  32. half part of the shares hereby respectively given to each of my children shall
  33. be raised and paid to them at the End of six months after my decease with
  34. Interest and the remaining moiety or half part shall be paid to each of my
  35. said children with interest at the end of my son’s said lease, but if my son’s lease

  1. is expired at my decease, then and in such case I request the shares of
  2. each my children shall be paid with interest at the end of one year
  3. after my decease, And I do hereby nominate and appoint James Wooldridge
  4. of Bishops Stoke in the County aforesaid Yeoman and Charles Wooldridge of the
  5. City of Winchester Gentleman, executors of this my will and do give to
  6. them five pounds apiece for their trouble and declare that my said executors
  7. shall not be answerable the one for the other of them of got the acts deeds or
  8. defaults of the other of them, but each of them for his own Acts Deeds and
  9. Defaults respectively and that they shall be reimbursed and allowed all their
  10. reasonable costs and expenses occasioned to them or either of them in discharging
  11. the trusts of this my last Will, and I hereby revoke all other wills and codicils
  12. by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be my last will
  13. and testament, In witness whereof the said James Barfoot the
  14. Testator have to this my will contained in two sheets of paper set my hand
  15. and seal in manner and following to the first sheet I have set my hand and to
  16. the last sheet my hand and seal this eleventh day of May One thousand
  17. Eight hundred and Ten.

  1. The twenty sixth day of april in the year of our Lord
  2. one Thousand eight hundred and eleven.
  3. On which day appeared personally Peter Light of Bishop’s
  4. Stoke in the County of Southampton, yeoman, and being
  5. sworn on the holy Evangelists to sear and depose the
  6. truth deposeteth and saith that James Barfoot of the Parish of
  7. South Stoneham in the County aforesaid yeoman did on the
  8. eleventh day of may last duly execute his last will and
  9. Testament of that date, and at the same time did desire and request
  10. this deponent and the said James Newman to attest the
  11. Execution thereof as witnesses. And this deponent further
  12. saith that he and the said James Newman did accordingly
  13. subscribe the same as witnesses to the said will but that
  14. the said James Newman not being able to write he made his
  15. mark thereto on the first sheet and also his mark at the
  16. conclusion of the second and last sheet, after this deponent
  17. had written his own name respectively as appears by
  18. the said will.
